Learn how to assess your school culture and use data-informed instructional leadership in preparation for next year’s school improvement plan.

Goal: Provide building and district leaders with research and tools to transform school culture and focus their staff on student success.

Day 1: Transforming School Culture

This session covers Anthony Muhammad’s Transforming School Culture. Leaders will learn about school culture, including healthy and toxic cultures.

Participants will:

  • Understand the difference between technical and cultural change.
  • Analyze their current school culture to understand what needs improvement.
  • Learn about the different roles (school culture players) in a school and how they impact building a healthy culture.

Day 2: Change Leadership

This session will help leaders apply the content from Day 1 to their school. The team will go deeper into the artifacts of a healthy school culture and participants will gain a deeper understanding of their culture. The team will collaborate on responses to challenges that may hinder change.

Participants will:

  • Analyze their school culture to understand what needs improvement.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the 3-Ds (methods used to hinder change) and how to respond to maintain a school’s growth.
  • Learn about the importance of communication, trust, capacity building, and accountability in the change process.

Day 3: Data-Driven Decision Making and Leadership

With a strong research foundation and tools, this session will encourage participants to examine their school cultures through the lens of seven school culture indicators. Leaders will use their understanding to collaborate and support one another as they plan to improve their school culture.

Participants will:

  • Examine examples of healthy school cultures and improvement teams.
  • Learn about what makes an effective improvement team and how to foster collective teacher efficacy.
  • Share and discuss their school culture through a culture audit and the seven school culture indicators.
  • Apply what they have learned in a collaborative presentation on a school culture scenario.
