At Capital Region ESD 113, closing gaps, growing people, influencing change, and eradicating racism are more than buzzwords — they’re a commitment to action.
As part of this commitment, we’re thrilled to announce the hiring of Dr. Auzimuth Jackson. Dr. Jackson joins us this week as our first director of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Dr. Jackson brings diverse experience across nonprofit, government, and education sectors to our team. At ESD 113, he’ll revise policies and practices, engage with our equity team, and help us meet our goals.
Before joining ESD 113, he served as a student equity, diversity, and inclusion officer at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. He was also an active leader in equity and inclusion throughout the 2010s in Austin, Texas.
“Hiring a director of diversity, equity and inclusion has been a goal for over 3 years,” Superintendent Dana Anderson said. “My greatest hesitation was grounded in a fear that hiring someone would cause us to think they are responsible for all the equity work, and we would let go of our personal responsibility to learn and grow. I have grown confident that will not be true here.”
This fall, we’ll continue our work toward eradicating racism. We’re partnering with Potential Unleashed’s Jahmad Canley to deliver agencywide equity training.
“I am confident that 3 years from now we will look back at this first step as the launch to our leadership in this space across the state,” Superintendent Anderson said.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jackson on his first day, this Friday, October 1, 2021. He can be reached at [email protected] or (360) 464-6704.
