New Paraeducator Requirements

Fundamental Course of Study (FCS)

Starting in the 2019–20 school year, districts must provide 14 hours of professional development on the FCS to their paraeducators. Our training will help your staff understand how to meet the learning needs of a diverse student body and strengthen the foundational skills that support student success.


OPTION 1: TWO 7-HOUR SESSIONS

Session 1

  • FCS02 Methods & Instructional Support (4 hours)
  • FCS10 Positive & Safe Learning Environment (3 hours)

Session 2

  • FCS01 Cultural Identity and Diversity (4 hours)
  • FCS04 Using and Collecting Data (1 hour)
  • FCS11 Communication Basics (2 hours)

OPTION 2: FIVE 3-HOUR SESSIONS

Session1

  • FCS10 Positive & Safe Learning Environment (3 hours)

Session 2

  • FCS04 Using and Collecting Data (1 hour)
  • FCS11 Communication Basics (2 hours)

Session 3

  • FCS02 Methods & Instructional Support (3 hours)

Session 4

  • FCS02 Methods & Instructional Support (1.5 hours)
  • FCS01 Cultural Identity and Diversity (1.5 hours)

Session 5

  • FCS01 Cultural Identity and Diversity (3 hours)
