September Superintendent's Update

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! Our team at ESD 113 is ready to support you and your community.

We start this year focused on turning funding and policy challenges into real progress for our schools. Our ESD leaders meet regularly with state and federal legislators to support education funding. We explain how these programs serve students and communities, and we push for policies that protect your ability to make local decisions instead of broad solutions that treat every district the same. We also work with other education advocacy groups across the state and country. Together, we look for more resources and push for changes to unfunded mandates.

Despite these funding challenges, our commitment to you has not changed. Our staff work quickly to find solutions for your needs, and we know those needs change from year to year. We can help directly, or connect you with the right resource. Let us know when something is working well, or when one of our staff members does great work for you.

Working together helps all of us. Your experience in classrooms and schools combines with our regional resources to benefit students across our communities. We do this work together throughout our five counties, and we also build partnerships with other ESDs and school districts across the state.

Every year holds new achievements and new challenges. Our work matters to every student, family, staff member, school, district, and community we serve.

We look forward to working with you this year. Contact us anytime. We’re here to help.

With much gratitude,

Flip Herndon
