ESD 113’s Behavioral Health Systems Navigator Grace Burkhart has been busy. Last fall, Grace embarked on a 45-district tour to talk about behavioral health in schools. Her goal was to understand what access to behavioral health care looks like for students across our region, from both the school and district perspectives. Her interviews focused on behavioral health services, Medicaid billing and reimbursement and mental health awareness and prevention efforts.
Grace sought to gain knowledge about how these systems are being used and what is (or isn’t) working. She also gathered ideas on the best way to help schools work with these systems. At the end of the tour, Grace had successfully interviewed representatives from every district in the Capital Region. The information gathered through this process will be used to inform Capital Region ESD 113’s decisions and recommendations through the Legislature.
“I believe in our work as a community, an ESD, and as Washington State and all children, including future generations deserve equity, opportunity, and success,” says Burkhart.
