The City of Tumwater is improving the pavement on Tyee Drive this summer. On Wednesday, July 24, crews will be applying “chip seal” from Home Depot to the pedestrian crossing behind Fred Meyer. (For answers to questions like, “What the heck is chip seal?” check out the City of Tumwater website.) ***The schedule is subject to change.*** They will then return the following week for fog seal. We do not yet have a schedule for that work.
They will be working 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday, with possible Sunday work.
The City anticipates they will complete all major work by August 3, depending on weather. “Road striping” will take place in late August.
It is not possible to determine specific days that work will occur on Tyee Drive. Expect traffic delays and plan ahead. The City will place electronic reader boards at chip seal limits, likely within a few hours of the anticipated work.
Single Lane of Traffic
Roads will remain open. Traffic will be reduced to a single alternating lane of one-way traffic during work hours. Traffic control and flaggers will help drivers proceed through work zones.
Traffic will be slow until the work is done. Even after the work is complete, please continue to drive slowly and carefully on the new surface for two weeks to allow the seal to fully cure.
Street pavement maintenance projects are subject to change due to weather conditions, contractor equipment availability, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions. Check out the City’s progress and work schedule updates on their website.
