From Shelton to Chicago

Shelton High School students Elli Smetzler, Kristyn Bailey, Melanie Sanders, Jade Powers, Liz Price, and Ellie Gardener, and five chaperones headed to Chicago last summer to lead a 60-minute workshop on Teenagers Against Marijuana and Tobacco Use (TAMATU), Little Stars, and Media Awareness. In the 2018–19 school year, the Shelton (Students Against Destructive Decisions) SADD club will focus on these three topics, and add one more: bullying and suicide prevention.

The Shelton group won several national awards at the conference, including “Top Community Service Project,” and recognition for being one of the top SAFETY groups in the nation.

Many thanks to the Mason County Health department, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the Skokomish Tribal Council, Domino’s in Shelton, and the Shelton SADD Parent Booster Club for raising the funds for students to go to this national conference in Chicago. Next year’s conference is in Burlington, Vermont.
