Education Advocates
ESD 113’s Education Advocates (EAs) help students ages 5 to 21 overcome academic, social-emotional, and physical health barriers to succeed in school. Our goal is to improve transition services for incarcerated youth as they move from secure facilities back to school and work and to provide children and youth who are at risk of disengaging from school with a support system to ensure their successful education.
We offer:
- Screening for behavioral health, social, and environmental supports and identification of student strengths and goals
- Holistic case management services based on assessments and student goals
- Long-term engagement, including support until age 21
- Nonjudgmental support and advocacy for reentry, school success, and career preparation
- Collaboration reentry planning and setting educational or vocational goals
- Coordinating services with families, schools, probation officers, counselors, and other professionals to ensure success
We’re here to help. Referrals come from juvenile rehabilitation facilities, transition facilitators, teachers, probation officers, community providers, families, and youth. If you or someone you know needs help, please submit a referral.
After a referral, the EA contacts the youth or family to introduce themselves, describe services, and begin the process. The EA conducts an assessment to identify barriers and strengths, then collaborates with the youth to create reentry and success plans. Regular meetings are held to work on these goals.
EAs are community-based and will travel to meet with youth at school, juvenile detention, local agencies, and community spaces. Phone and video meetings are also available.
