Business Managers
We help business managers provide accurate financial reports and promote good stewardship of public dollars through training, reviews, and other support. We keep them up-to-date on the rapidly changing state and federal requirements, and we review required state reports before submitting them on behalf of their school districts.
Our resources help them perform their job functions efficiently and effectively. We also offer financial analysis and we can fill fiscal vacancies on a contracted basis, if needed.
Business Manager Academy
ESD 113's Business Manager Academy (BMA) trains new business managers to become effective leaders who ensure sound finances for school districts. We prepare qualified local personnel who need training and mentoring before stepping into business manager roles. The Academy tailors services to meet each district's specific needs. Participants work with their own district's information during every class session.
The three-year program builds essential skills that business managers need to succeed. Participants learn to understand and apply state and federal regulations. They learn state funding systems and monthly apportionment reports. The Academy teaches participants to use data and financial modeling when making financial decisions. Participants also learn to search written and online resources to find answers to complex questions.
The Academy provides comprehensive support through multiple components. ESD 113 staff offer training, technical assistance, and ongoing support throughout the program. Participants join peer groups with other business managers across the region. The program includes approximately 30 weekly sessions that combine theory, current topics, and hands-on work. Technology support helps participants review resources and access district records during work sessions. The Academy creates a supportive learning environment where participants can complete current work while building new skills.
Participants graduate with the knowledge and confidence to lead district financial operations effectively. They understand complex regulations, can navigate state funding systems, and make data-informed financial decisions. The peer network they build continues to support them throughout their careers. Districts benefit from having well-trained business managers who can maintain financial stability and compliance.
