On April 21, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy released the 2022 National Drug Control Strategy. Featured within it is an anecdote about True North’s work addressing student substance use and behavioral issues among high school students.

“This is agreat day for prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery supports and an especially good day for Student Assistance Programs!” said ESD 113 Senior Director of Behavioral Health and Integrated Student Supports Erin Wick.

The document highlighted the efforts and successes of the Student Assistance Program within Capital Region ESD 113. True North’s work with this model began in 2013.

Using information gathered through the Healthy Youth Survey, they identified one district with a much higher alcohol consumption rate than the state average. Through expanded services and supports, they were able to drop the consumption rate to eight percent lower than the state average by 2018.

The anecdote can be found on page 24 of the 2022 National Drug Control Strategy.
